IMPORTANT
UPDATE
from GW Housing:
GW
Summer & Conference Housing Arrival on Sunday,
May 25, 2008 IMPORTANT INFORMATION
GW
Housing Programs is looking forward to welcoming
you to Washington DC and our campus. You are
receiving this e-mail because according to our
records, your housing is scheduled with an arrival
date of Sunday, May 25, 2008. As this date is
the official start of our Summer & Conference
Housing program, it is our single largest check-in
day of the Summer season.
To
better manage the arrival of our guests, GW
is moving the arrival and check-in process to
the Marvin Center, GW's student center/union
on the Foggy Bottom Campus. The additional space
in this location allows GW to give you a "One-Stop"
check in process that we hope will be smooth
and easy for you. Summer guests will be able
to officially check-in, receive their residence
hall Summer Courtesy Card (access card), room
key, and for our long-stay participants, collect
their ResNet equipment which is necessary to
access the internet from on-campus rooms.
The
Marvin Center is located at 800 21st Street
NW between H and I Streets. Summer guests are
asked to enter via 21st Street NW for unrestricted
access. Those arriving via the Foggy Bottom-GWU
Metro, once leaving the Metro Station, you will
find yourself at the intersection of 23rd and
I Streets. Proceed down I Street and turn right
onto 21st Street. The Marvin Center entrance
is immediately on your right.
On
Sunday, May 25, 2008, we will begin to check-in
guests at 2:00pm (one hour earlier than our
standard check-in time). Check-in will occur
at the Marvin Center until 6:30pm and will resume
at our regular location, New Hall, located at
2350 H Street NW at 7:00pm. Should you anticipate
your travel to occur near 6:30pm, we are advising
guests to proceed directly to New Hall.
If
you have not already done so, please refer to
the following URL to complete your personal
information, electronically sign the Summer
Housing License Agreement, and make final payment
for those Summer guests who are individually
paying for their housing. Please note that PAYMENT
IN FULL is required prior to your check in date.
Not paying in advance of your physical arrival
to campus will delay your check-in. Guests who
are not GWU academic-year students and have
not created a Courtesy Net ID will need to create
a Courtesy Net ID to proceed. Please follow
the steps as a "First Time Visitor".
GWU academic-year students may log in using
their Net ID and password.

Please
make sure that you have reviewed all of the
Terms and Conditions of your Summer Housing
License Agreement including change of stay requests,
early departures and cancellations.
WHAT
TO BRING -- You may want to bring a few
items to make your stay more comfortable. We
recommend bringing dishes, pots and pans, silverware
and cooking utensils if you have selected a
room with a kitchen. All rooms will have a refrigerator
and microwave, even those without a kitchen.
Please note that our residence halls do not
provide TVs or a telephone. You will also need
to bring towels and XL twin bed size sheets
are suggested (while most beds are standard
twin, XL twin sheets will fit any bed on campus).
RULES
AND REGULATIONS -- While on campus, you
will be expected adhere to the Residential Community
Conduct Guidelines. Please refer to the section
on rules and regulations on our website at:
http://gwired.gwu.edu/gwhousing/summerhousing/rules
before you arrive to campus. GW does not maintain
curfews, and those who are 21 or over are permitted
to consume alcohol in their own rooms. The University
will not tolerate illegal substance abuse, underage
consumption of alcohol, excessive noise violations,
and/or the destruction of property. You are
expected to abide by the rules outlined in this
section. Violations will be subject to a cancellation
of your Summer Housing License Agreement.
REPAIRS
-- If you have a general repair request during
your stay, you may report it at the Fix-it Web
site at: https://my.gwu.edu/mod/fixit. Some
examples of general repair items are burned
out light bulbs, pest control, cot requests,
etc. Residents with Critical Repair issues should
call the Fixit Critical Call Center at (202)
994-0381 to report their issues. Some examples
of critical issues are lock outs, loss of heat
or air conditioning, plumbing clogs, non-cooling
refrigerators, etc.
PARKING -- If you wish to bring you vehicle
with you, you may register for parking on a
monthly or day-to-day basis at Parking Services.
Street parking is severely limited in the Foggy
Bottom neighborhood. We recommend making prior
arrangements before you arrive with your vehicle.
Parking Services can be reached at (202) 994-7275
or visit their website at: http://www.parking.gwu.edu./rates/residentintern.cfm.
To speed your request for Parking, please complete
the Summer Guest Registration Form on the Parking
Services Web site. For those needing Parking
simply for your arrival day, the University
Parking Garage is located one block from the
Marvin Center at 22nd Street NW.
MAIL
-- When you arrive at GW, we will provide you
with a key or combination for your room's mailbox.
All packages, parcels, and oversized items are
handled at the Student Package Services Center
located at 2025 F Street, Room L101. The typical
hours of operation for the summer are Monday
through Friday, 10:00am to 8:00pm and Saturday
10:00am to 2:00pm. To make your Summer transition
smooth as possible, Mail Services suggests using
a temporary forwarding order through the United
States Postal Service. This service will allow
you to temporarily change your address to the
Summer GW address. The change of address forms
is available at your local post office or by
visiting their website at: http://www.usps.com
and clicking on the change of address headline.
If you have any questions regarding GW Mail
Services or Student Package Services please
contact Mail Services at (202) 994-6725 or via
e-mail at: gwmailsv@gwu.edu.
