Dear Distinguished Members of the Notre Dame Anthropology Community:
Please accept my most profound thanks for allowing me to participate in the Research Training Program at the National Museum of Natural History at the Smithsonian Institution this summer. Your generosity has enabled me to begin research that I hope will last a lifetime.
During my time here, I have embarked on a journey that I never thought possible. The opportunities provided here allowed my love of osteology to flourish as I analyzed not only Ovis bone structure and development but applied this data to interpret the unusual herd composition presented to me in my project. While researching my particular interests has been an unforgettable, valuable experience, it was only a part of the education I received here. Lectures regarding all fields of study opened up a new world of science to me, one I had never thought I could be interested in before. Tours of the facilities also contributed to this summers beneficial encounters, as I saw firsthand the millions of specimens hidden from public view. I had the honor of meeting with the brightest scientific minds of today and discussing not only their work but my future as well.
This project has given me confidence, as I am certain that physical anthropology is the path I wish to take as I continue my education. In fact, I have been invited back next summer to continue my work and publish its results, using the research I have done towards my senior thesis. I cannot imagine a more precious gift than the one you have given me, the gift of a future in the field that I love. Again, thank you for your support
Sincerely,
Lesley Gregoricka
