The Ethics Discussion

A total of 219 applications were received by the 2001 deadline of 1 February 2001.

Pre-screening was conducted on-line using the RTP evaluation system. The Pre-screening Committee then met Friday, 2 February 2001 to finalize results. All application folders were reviewed, including incomplete folders. The committee nominated 165 semi-finalists (75%) for forwarding to Scientific Evaluators serving on the Scoring Committee.

The Scoring Committee was composed of 16 members and 1 alternate from the NMNH scientific staff. There were eight review teams with two reviewers per team. Semi-finalists folders were divided randomly into seven review set of 20 or 21 folders per set. All reviews were conducted on-line beginning Monday, 5 February 2001. Each semi-finalist was scored by two different reviewers. Evaluators completed a 100 point scoring matrix for all application folders in their set.
