A
total of 324 applications were received by the 1999 deadline of
1 February 1999.
The
Pre-screening Committee eliminated 107 applicants (33%) and nominated
217 semi-finalists (67%) for forwarding to the Scoring Committee.
The
1999 Scoring Committee is composed of sixteen (16) members from the NMNH
scientific staff. There are eight (8) review teams with two (2) reviewers
per team. Application folders have been divided randomly into eight (8)
review set of 27 folders per set. Each semi-finalist will be scored by
two (2) different reviewers. Scoring Committee members will complete a
100 point score sheet for all application folders in their set. To equalize
scoring, review sets will be computer normalized to achieve an average
score of 75 and standard deviation of 10. Approximately 40 students will
be selected as finalists for review by the Final Selection Committee.
IMPORTANT:
This posting of semi-finalist status is not definitive. Due to regular
adjustments in review sets, circumstances often dictate a change in status.
No applicant should consider themselves completely eliminated from consideration
for a position in the RTP until the final status is released and award
notices are mailed - 8 March 1999.

is the list of 1999 Research Training Program semi-finalists:
