Systematic implications of seed characters in Heliconia Sect. Tortex

This project investigates the systematic implications of seed morphology of Heliconias. The results will be compared with previously construed phylogenies based on other morphological features. Heliconias are enchanting and this project will lead toa greater knowledge of the plants. It will also lead to learning valuable research skills, gaining a keen knowledge of systematics and meeting as many interesting people as humanly possible!

This research was supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates (Award: BIR-9300225).
