Ethnobotanical Conservation This project involved researching material on Philippine medicinal plants, books and periodicals. Many were located in or through the Botany library as well as in the Anthropology and main NH library. Using W.S.5.5, these entries were entered into the computer (including some found at the Philippine embassy), and a hard copy was produced to be sent to the Philippines to be reviewed and/or updated by Dr. DeFilipps' collaborator on the project, Dr. Benito Tan. Six line drawings were also created for Dr. DeFilipps' publication, Medicinal Plants of the Guianas. The IUCN data sheets on threatened and rare plants were also cross-referenced with this publication, and Medical Plants of the Guianas will include warning about overcollection of plants in need of protection.
This research was supported by a grant from the James Smithson Society. |
