Pollen Ultrastructure / Gesneriaceae Projects

This project involved examination of the ornamentation of pollen grains from the family Zingiberaceae. Because of the limited time, only 12 of the 45 genera in the family were examined. Currently only one other person has studied the ultrastructure of the pollen and he studied about 18 genera. Between this project and his research, only about half of the genera have been examined. As for species, there are about 1,500 in the family and only 100 have been studied between the two research efforts.

This research was supported by a grant from the Educational Outreach Fund.
