Gymnosperm Curation

This project consisted of updating the Gymnosperm collection. This included checking validity of names; making name changes where required; breaking apart Taxaceae and Pinaceae sensilato and recognition of the following families: Podocarpaceae, Cephalotaxaceae, and Taxaceae sens stricta, Aravcariaceae, Pinaceae sens stricta, Taxodiaceae, and Cupressaceae; and recognition of new genera such as Sequoiadendron, Widdingtonia, and Tetraclinis.

Another aspect of the project included breaking apart oversized bundles and reorganizing the collection. An alphabetical arrangement within the geographical regions was approved and the collection was then moved into this arrangement.

The remainder of the collection included preparation of the cone collection for future curation, annotating and identifying specimens; and removing material for the D.C. herbarium, the Wilkes Expedition, and the Ringold and Rogers Expedition. Material was also removed so herbarium numbers could be placed on the sheets and then refiled.
