Sunday,
October 16, 1881
Went to church, the rector, Mr. Cleveland, away. The sexton
read the service - sang, Holy, Holy, Holy, the hymn for Trinity
sunday. Wanka, Wanka, also, Nearer my God to Thee. The people
sang in a loud chest tone, discordant and nasal.
Went to dinner at a Mr. A.G. Shaw, married to an Indian woman.
There I saw the Turtle, learned of various games of women and
about the Woman's Club.
Also, went to the funeral of the woman who died the day before
and was a member of the Womans band. The blanket that
was given was put over the coffin while being carried to the
grave and spread so as to receive the earth. Mr. Smith read
part of the service buried outside the grave yard. Grave yard
near hill shape of cross.
