Shuttle
The Smithsonian
operates a free shuttle bus from the National Museum
of Natural History to the Museum Support Center, which is approximately six miles southeast of Washington, D.C. The shuttle bus departs from the museum's entrance on Madison Drive (i.e., the Mall entrance) on the hour and arrives at the Museum Support Center 27 minutes
later.

need a pass to ride the shuttle bus, so please let us know in advance
if you plan to ride the shuttle. You will also need a photo ID to board
the shuttle and enter the Museum Support Center. Please
let us know if you would like to schedule a wheelchair-accessible shuttle
bus.

Take the
Green Line to the Suitland Station. Exit the station, follow the path
to Silver Hill Road and turn right (west). Follow the sidewalk across
the entrance and exit ramps to Suitland Parkway. The Museum Support
Center is the second large building complex on the righthand side of
the street, behind a black wrought iron fence. Ask the guard at the
entrance to the complex to direct you to the Museum Support Center.
The entire walk from Metro to MSC is about 10-15 minutes. You must present
a photo ID to enter the Museum Support Center.

Downtown Washington, D.C.
Take South
Capital across the Anacostia River. Follow the Suitland Parkway until the
exit for Silver Hill South. Exit right onto Silver Hill Road and go
about 2 blocks to the guard building inside the black wrought iron gate on right
(second driveway on right after off ramp). Ask the guard to direct you
to the Museum Support Center.
From
Baltimore, MD and points North
Take I-95
South to the Washington Beltway (I-495/I-95 South, toward Andrews Air
Force Base or Richmond). Take the first exit for Route 4 - Pennsylvania
Avenue (toward Washington, DC). At end of exit ramp move one lane to
the left. Continue through 4 traffic lights and turn left at the 5th onto
Silver Hill Road. Go past Suitland High School, the Federal Center,
Suitland Metro station. At the wrought iron fence on the right after
the metro station, turn into the driveway of the Smithsonian complex.
Ask the guard to direct you to the Museum Support Center.

Richmond, VA and points South
Take I-95
North to the Washington Beltway (I-495 East/I-95 East, toward Alexandria
or Baltimore). Take Exit 7B, Branch Avenue (North). Go through several traffic lights. Exit right onto St. Barnabus Road. Turn Right on Silver Hill Road. The Museum Support Center will be on your left. Ask the guard at the gate to direct you to the Museum Support Center.

Maryland Eastern Shore
Take Route
50 West to the Washington Beltway - I-495/I-95 South (towards Andrews
Air Force Base or Richmond), take first exit for Route 4 at Pennsylvania
Avenue (toward Washington, DC), at end of exit ramp move one lane to
the left, go through 4 traffic lights and turn left at the 5th onto
Silver Hill Road, go past Suitland High School, the Federal Center,
and the Suitland Metro station. Take the driveway on the right to the
guard building inside black wrought iron gate (second driveway on right
after get off ramp). Ask the guard to direct you to the Museum Support
Center.
From
Pittsburgh, PA and points West
Take Route
70 East (towards Harrisburg or Philadelphia), take I-270 South to the
Washington Beltway - I-495/I-95 East (take the I-270 spur that stays
in Maryland), take first exit for Route 4 - Pennsylvania Avenue (toward
Washington, DC), at end of exit ramp move one lane to the left, go through
4 traffic lights and turn left at the 5th onto Silver Hill Road, go
past Suitland High School, the Federal Center, and the Suitland Metro
station. Take the driveway on the right to the guard building inside
the black wrought iron gate. Ask the guard to direct you to the Museum
Support Center.
